Offended by The Gospel Dec 25, 2005

Throughout the Christmas 2005 season we saw a battle going on. Most of our chain stores had commercial campaigns using the theme "holidays". "Home for the Holiday" "Happy Holiday" "Season Greetings" Everything but "Merry Christmas" Even Christmas trees were renamed "holiday trees" Many churches and others took offense to this and started notifying these chains that unless they put Christ back in Christmas, they would lose their business.

Why did these stores take Christ out of Christmas in the first place? The reason of course is that they did not want to offend some. In doing so, they offended many others. Non Christians are not the only ones that seem to be offended by the Gospel. I have seen many of those that bear the name "Christian" that seem to be offended also.

I recently posted the plan of salvation (which I call the First Step Toward Better Relationships) in a Christian group. It was rejected with this statement: "Post a message to Christians as if you are speaking to non Christians, which of course would be offensive to a
Christian"

It should be no surprise to see many that are offended when the name "Jesus" is mentioned. In the political correctness of our society, Christians are told we should be "tolerant" of other's believes. This is of course the polite way of telling Christians to shut up and never mention the name of Christ because it will offend others. It does not matter that no one has to tolerate Christians as the name of many other "gods" can be used, but never the name of the LIVING GOD.

Why would this be so? Why are so many including some "Christians" afraid of the name of Jesus? Let's look at this:

2 Corinthians 4:4 tells us why.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

You see, satan is the god of this world and he also knows what Jesus said in John 10:10 when Jesus revealed satan's purpose…to kill and destroy. Jesus said then that HE came to give us life and to give it to us abundantly.

Acts 4:12 in speaking about Jesus says: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

It is at the name of JESUS…that EVERY knee shall bow. Folks…I firmly believe this means just what it says. Someday, every knee will bow before the LORD JESUS CHRIST and declare HIM to be LORD OF LORDS AND KING OF KINGS. This will those who can not kneel and…it will include the knees of every demon and satan himself. Yes...someday satan will bow before the LORD and declare that HE IS LORD!

We can understand why those that do not know the LORD would be offended, but let us look at that "Christian group" that would not allow the plan of salvation to be presented in their group. Remember they said it "would be offensive to a Christian"

I ask...why would the gospel of Jesus Christ be offensive to any Christian? Does not Romans 1:16 tell us: 

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."?

OFFENDED BY THE GOSPEL!

Recently a real HATE group was masking itself as a group to oppose the feminist evil all the while not being able or willing to see that they have become those that they detest. This was posted about someone who was exposing them for what they were…no better then the feminist they were complaining about. This was after several messages
were posted by this person to point out that the Bible calls for us to love our enemy, not hate them. This was the message he posted in this group.

Their reply was:

He is a dumb hick who's going straight to hell when he
dies.

Why? Because the grubby redneck is a sinner who deserves it. God hates him (as the Bible does mention for wilful sinners) almost as much as all the other people whom he's shown what a lowlife scumbag he's lived as.

Repent, feminist (deleted) face.

Ecclesiates 3:8:

"A time to love, and a time to hate".
~ I think it's about time to hate him

I have seen many that I know are real genuine Christians that would avoid controversy at all costs. They did not want to make waves but my friend, if we are not making waves, we are not DOING much for the LORD either. We are promised that we would…not might would suffer for HIS name.

1 Peter 4:16 tells us:

Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

2 Timothy 1:8 goes even further…it tells us to accept it:

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;


Why would some Christians find the Gospel offensive?

Some find it offensive because they are not following the LORD…they are disobeying HIS commands either by doing things they know a Christian should not do, or not doing things they know they have been told to do.


1 Peter 2

6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

Some are offended because they do not know the Word.

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

They take the Bible out of context and often claim promises that are not theirs to claim, or they major in the minors by taking something the Bible mentions in passing and they make a major doctrine out of it. This is how we get the snake handlers we have heard about.

What is the solution to this?

We can understand why those that do not know the LORD are offended with the gospel and we know that many that do know HIM still are but how can they overcome this? How would they be able to also say.. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ?

I believe the answer is fairly simple. Let me give you a couple of illustrations.

When you first fell in love with your husband or wife, did you care who knew it? Or did you let everyone know?

My friend, I believe that is the key to living a life for the LORD. I believe we need to really FALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS as never before. Many times someone has fallen in love with another after they found out that person cared about them. When they realized that person
loved them, they learned to love that person in return. When we allow someone to love us, we will often learn to love them in return. The Bible declares GOD's love for us many times. John 3:16 is perhaps the best known verse to show this.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
