Men
The hidden half of domestic violence
What in the World is Happening?
Some may well be asking that question as they see so many
posts about
abuse. I have had others in other groups that do not focus on abuse
contact me about this issue also. They have told me about abuse in
their own families. It seems almost everyone personally knows
someone who is being abused and often it is within our own families.
It should not be a surprised. It was predicted long ago:
Micah 7:6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth
up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law;
a man's enemies are the men of his own house
Although there were problems within families from the beginning of
human history, never has it been more prevalent then it is today. I
strongly believe there is a reason for this:
Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us: "And thou shalt teach them diligently unto
thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine
house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down,
and when thou risest up."
Although a recent poll states that 84% of Americans believe there is
a GOD, few attend church on a regular bases, most do not say grace
at the supper table. How can they; few families actually eat supper
together anymore. Each are going their separate ways. Family
devotions are unheard of and of course we all know we can not even
mention the name of GOD in our schools (unless it is cussing)
Along with this, many of our schools do not teach right and wrong any
longer. We have a permissive society. We are told we can not
inflict our values upon others. I for one can not say someone was
acting inappropriately at work.
Folks...if we do not teach values to our children how are they going
to obtain them? More to the point, nothing exists in a vacuum. If
we take GOD out of the public square, out of the pubic forum and out
of our schools, I assure you, satan will move in faster then you can
blink an eye. When he does, destruction always follows. Jesus said
in John 10:10:
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more
abundantly
The world promises it. "Get it now". "No money down",
"no payments
until next year" It promises all sorts of things, Instant pleasure.
Instant success but it can not deliver for it leaves on the one thing
we need the most to have this abundant life. Only Jesus can satisfy
the soul! He'll give you peace you never knew; Sweet love and joy
and Heaven too; For only Jesus can satisfy your soul
Because the world promises so much it can not deliver, many feel they
have been wronged when they do not get what was promised. We want it
and we want it now.
James 14-15: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his
own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth
forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
I watched a repeat of the Walton's recently. John boy and Mary Ellen
both were told they could use the shed for their own space each by
one of the parents that did not know the other had promised it too.
Of course, they settled it peacefully. In many homes it would it
have turned into a major battle. Each one could have demanded his or
her "rights" and this is how much of the abuse occurs in our homes.
We feel we have the right to demand things even if it involves
hurting others. Often broken promises or feelings of not being
appreciated with do so also.
It is only when we value each other for who they are and not what
they can do for us that we can overcome this "what is in it for me"
attitude. When we start caring for each other, we can end abuse.
How can we learn to do this when we have so many needs ourselves?
Micah 7:
7 Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my
salvation: my God will hear me.
8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise;
when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.
9 I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned
against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he
will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his
righteousness.
10 Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover
her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine eyes shall
behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.
18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth
by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not
his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will
subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the
depths of the sea.
My friend, to end abuse, to find this abundant life, to find real
peace in the place it is most difficult to find, we have to allow
GOD back into our lives. He is not a distant GOD watching from afar
ready to punish us. He is as close as we want Him to be. He is not
a GOD sitting in a red box with a sign on it…"Break Glass In Case of
Emergency" He wants to be an intimate part of our life. Jesus is not
a "fire hose" to be used only to put out a fire, HE would be more
like a garden hose to nourish and refresh us, to give us water on a
hot summer day. He is the living water. He is the bread of Life.
Come to HIM today… He is only a whisper away!
