The hidden half of domestic violence

How to have eternal life

    Bread and Water

How often have we heard about someone being given only bread and water? Oh we often think it involves giving someone just enough to live on but if we have the right bread and water, we will thrive.

Most of us know about the Exodus. This is the term used when two million people left Egypt for the promise land. It was not long before the people started to complain about not having food and water. They told Moses, the servant of God that it would have been better to be a slave in Egypt then to die in the desert. Even though they were complaining and showed a major lack of faith, God still provided for them because they were His people. Oh we know that God sent manna from heaven to feed them but few stop to realize how much
manna was needed. It would take 240 box cars of manna every day and 480 boxcar loads on Friday because none would be delivered on the Sabbath. This went on for forty years!

Why manna? Well according to Ex. 16:14 it was a small round piece of bread. It was the means of the physical salvation of Israel.

We can learn many things from this manna. First, it was given on a daily basis. (Give us this day our daily bread) but it was not given on the Sabbath. It was small thus indicating humility. Let's stop for a moment and think about what this manna represented.

Jesus Christ said HE is the bread of life. He is our manna. How much more humble can one get then to be born in a stable? He never had a palace and His crown was made of thrones. He did not get the applauds of the people, He got the closed fist of Roman soldiers. In
His death, HE did not get a royal funeral but he was nailed to a cross like a common criminal and even had to borrow a tomb.  (He would only need it for three days)   Yet He was then and is now and will always be the KING Of Kings and the LORD of Lords.

Manna was round. A circle has no beginning or end. Micah 5:2 tellsus that He from everlasting.

Manna was white which shows purity. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

The people of Israel had to stoop to pick manna off the ground, it was not placed on tables. We need to bow at the foot of the cross to receive our manna. Each person had to gather the manna for themselves. There is no family plans for salvation. We are not saved because grandma and grandpa were saved.

The manna was not placed in hills for us to climb up to and we can not climb up to meet Jesus. We have to trust Him for the full payment for our sin, not for everything we can not work for. The last words of Jesus were...IT IS FINISHED!

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast  Ephesians 2:8-9

Manna was sweet. Jesus is the sweetest name I know.

It came down from heaven. He left the splendor of heaven, Knowing His destiny, Was the lonely hill of Golgotha, There to lay down His life for me

The manna was given to a bitter, rebellious people. They complained at every turn and even wanted to go back to Egypt. They wanted the assurance of a few morsels of food that they forgot the whips of the slave masters as they worked 12 or more hours a day, from sun up to
sundown. We too so often complain. If God gave us a brand new car, we would complain that it was gray and we wanted a blue car. Just as with so many others we know, nothing is ever good enough.

Just as God provided for a rebellious people we are told in Romans 5:8   But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God didn't send a Savior because we WANTED one, but because He knew we NEEDED one!

There are many things we can learn from this. God did not abandon Israel and HE will not abandon us. If He could supply 240 boxcar loads of manna to them, HE sure can meet your needs.  (Today it would take 100,000 loafs of bread just to give one slice to each of them)

Philippians 4:19  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in
glory by Christ Jesus.

The manna followed them for 40 years. Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you.

It was sent in the darkness of the night. Jesus was born in the night but....the darkness turned to day!

They had to receive the manna early in the morning. It melted away later in the day. We are told in 2 Corinthians 6:2....now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) NO one is promised tomorrow....we are not even promised the next heart beat.

Manna was all over the ground. The people of Israel could either stoop to pick it up, or they could walk on it. We can do that also!

Hebrews 10:29  Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy,
who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

If you reject the Light of the world, the Bible says you are on your way to eternal darkness, darkness so black you can feel it!

My friend, if you do not know the peace and joy that only Jesus can give, right now, you are either going to stoop down and receive this manna, this bread of live, or you are going to trodden it under your feet.

Throughout his adult ministry, Jesus showed that His humility continued. He washed the feet of the apostles. He reached out to those the world rejected. He is still doing it today. I well remember the night He reached down to a nobody like ME! Then....HE made me SOMEBODY! He made me a child of the King...but not just any king, but the KING OF KINGS!

Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me and that thou bidst me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come

Be you a general in the army or a raw recruit, a Congressman or a page, be you a king or a pauper. If you have had all the comforts of this world or just enough to keep you alive, if you have been in perfect health or if you have every handicap known to man, EACH of
you will have to receive this manna, the Bread of Life in the same way. The publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
